Mongolia Eagle Hunting Festival: An eagle hunter prepares his eagle for the annual Eagle Hunting Festival that celebrates Kazakh culture, Bayan Olgi, Mongolia, Sept 18, 2004. Kazakhs have hunted with eagles for centuries. The Eagle Hunting Festival has revived Kazakh culture which was surpressed under Soviet rule. (via Roger Arnold)
One of the other anthropology students that will also be conducting capstone project research this summer is in Mongolia right now and truly the upside to Facebook is being able to be connected with him. His recent status was that he was meeting with the top Imam in the country for a cemetery ritual. I’ve always wanted to go to Mongolia and just by knowing an individual that is there at the moment is exciting.
For the one’s that don’t know yet, I’ll be leaving for Dubai this Friday. If you need to contact me; email and skype is best.

A couple years back I saw some photographs of horsemen in Mongolia and became quite fascinated with the country and the people. I bought and read several books on the country and concluded that I might not ever go there after all. Though the big festival - with not only eagle hunting, but saddle-less horse racing, too - would be a once in a lifetime event, for sure.
I hope you have a wonderful time in Dubai, and look forward to hearing your perspective on life there..
